Research Position in Innovative Biophotonics at DTU Fotonik, Denmark

The focus of the research and innovation at DTU Fotonik is all aspects of light and material interactions from ultrafast communication to optical materials. In the area of biophotonics DTU Fotonik wishes to employ an innovative Senior Researcher. The position is for three years with a starting date as soon as possible.

Job description
The tasks within the position are among others to further develop, simulate, fabricate and adapt optical sensors for pharmaceutical and clinical use. The candidate is also expected to contribute within the following areas:
• Research – including scientific publishing and popular scientific dissemination
• Innovation and patent planning
• Develop optical sensor principles for label-free biomolecular interaction monitoring
• Asses multiple application areas of the sensor
• Research management
• Supervision of researchers, postdocs and PhD students
• Participation in evaluation committees.

• Candidates should have a PhD degree or equivalent as well as academic qualifications equivalent to those obtained by holding a position as Researcher or Assistant Professor.
• Didactic/pedagogic training
• Have in-depth knowledge about fabrication procedures and use of optical biosensors in polymer materials and to design the entire fabrication process ready for mass production.
• Have in-depth knowledge about optical simulations, materials science and chemistry.
• Experience with optical biosensing within basic research, drug discovery, and/or clinical chemistry and research.
• Have extensive clean room experience, at least class 100.
• Documented innovative skills such as patent experience and business development performance.
• Documented funding experience for both national and international research collaborations.

In the assessment of the candidates consideration will be given to:
• scientific production and research potential at international level
• innovative skills, the ability to generate new ideas and develop it into a business case
• the ability to communicate at all levels such as the provision of scientific advice to public sector authorities
• experience in teaching and education
• the ability to promote and utilize research results
• an all-round experience basis, preferably including international experience
• the ability to contribute to development of the department’s internal and external cooperation.

Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed with the relevant union. The working place will be DTU Fotonik, Risø Campus.
