Don’t Forget Your Child

Jesus’ parents got so busy with other things, they didn’t notice they had lost Him: The boy Jesus lingered behind in Jerusalem. And Joseph and His mother did not know they had left Him behind, supposing Him to have been in their company. Fortunately for them they found Him again. But it doesn’t always work that way.

One Christian leader tell a story of a man he met at a conference. This man’s daughter, who was in second grade, was asked by her teacher to draw a picture of her family. That evening she proudly brought her art work in a rolled cardboard paper home and showed it to her parents. When her dad looked at the picture he said, ‘What is this picture of?’ His daughter replied, That is of us and our house. The teacher asked me to draw a picture of our family. He looked at the picture more carefully and saw that everyone except him was in the picture. ‘Sweetheart’, he asked, ‘am I in the picture? ‘No, she replied innocently. ‘Why not?’ he asked. ‘Because this is a picture of us at home, and you are never there’. It hit him like a ton of bricks. Without malice she had stated a simple fact.

It was a wake up call for an absentee dad. That day he decided to turn around and go back to his family. With the presence of the television, internet and peer pressure; how is your family going along with you? Make a U-turn. Go back and pick up the people who matter most. Commit yourself to making the journey only if it includes them.
